This was my first time as a Utah brand photographer to create brand images for a company that sells constantly changing digital products instead of physical products, and I enjoyed the unique creative challenges this shoot involved! Love Pray Teach is a company that creates digital lesson aids, games, coloring pages, and activities. All materials correlate with the curriculum from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Parents and teachers can join the LPT monthly membership and download and print their products. The colorful, kid-friendly materials capture kids’ attention and reinforce concepts from the scriptures.

Creating Custom “Stock” Photography

The reason for blank space in the middle of each flatlay above relates to the digital nature of LPT products. The Love Pray Teach team constantly creates and adds new products that parents and teachers print out for their lessons. Instead of styling the actual products, Megan (owner of LPT) asked me to arrange props around a blank paper. She requested that I then remove the paper before taking the photo. That way, she and her team can add the printable product in the middle of the flatlay digitally. Each flatlay image can be used over and over later on for multiple products. This is a great strategy for businesses selling intangible products that are constantly rotating.

Behind the Scenes

When you need lifestyle photos of a product used at church, but you can’t take pictures inside of a church, you get creative! Megan and I brainstormed how to get more of an LDS church classroom look without being in a church. I asked her if she had any basic metal folding chairs she could bring, and she did! We moved the studio furniture out of the way and set up the metal chairs in front of the white brick wall. Combined with Megan’s family dressed in Sunday best, it did the trick!

A Family Business

Something that I think all business owners come to understand is that running a business tends to become a family affair! Megan’s husband and kids were so sweet, patient and cooperative as they modeled with her throughout the lifestyle part of this brand shoot. We had a lot of scenes to stage in a short amount of time, but they were so helpful and made everything flow smoothly so that we could get all the different shots we needed!
