Advertising Photography for Amazon
When shooting advertising photography for Amazon products, sometimes I get to create a little Photoshop magic behind the scenes. The photo shoot I’m sharing with you today is a great example of that! SFEG contacted me to shoot their patio string lights and poles for their Amazon listings during the middle of the winter. Crusty snow on the ground didn’t match the ideal vibe that we wanted to portray in the lifestyle photos of the patio string lights and poles. That’s why we determined that a little Photoshop magic would need to come into play for this shoot.
Photoshop Composite Product Photos
First, I used photos I’d taken previously in outdoor summer settings to create backgrounds with the desired outdoor appeal. Next, I used Photoshop to cut out the SFEG string lights and poles from photos I had taken of them. Last, I layered the products on top of the outdoor lifestyle backgrounds. I also took photos of the various pieces of the light poles individually, then assembled them in Photoshop. This allowed me to create on-white composite photos with all the parts of the product.
Patio Light Street Photography
One of my favorite parts of this shoot was strolling around downtown Salt Lake City at twilight to shoot string lights that looked similar to SFEG’s “in the wild.” I really haven’t taken the time to do much street photography, so this was a fun experience for me. One of the restaurants that had patio lights hung up in its outdoor dining area was a delicious Italian restaurant. My husband and I ordered takeout from the restaurant during an anniversary trip to SLC last year. Now that the pandemic situation is (somewhat) better than it was last year, taking photos outside this restaurant really made me want to come back and eat there during the summertime when I can fully appreciate the restaurant’s impeccable outdoor dining ambiance.
