27 Fun Facts About Me | Gilbert Arizona Photographer
August is my birthday month, and this year I celebrated my 27th birthday! So before August is officially over, I’m sharing 27 fun facts about me, along with a few recent pictures of me and my little family. I hope this helps you get to know me a little better; be sure to comment and tell me if we have something in common!
1. A birthday tradition I love is going huckleberry picking in the mountains of Southern Idaho. There’s nothing more delicious than wild mountain huckleberries, and they usually ripen right around my birthday. When I was growing up, my mom would often read the book Blueberries for Sal out loud to us during the ride to the mountains, and after picking (and eating) huckleberries until it was too dark to see, we’d go home and enjoy huckleberry pie or homemade huckleberry ice cream. That’s one of the things I really miss about the place I grew up! As far as I know, there are no wild huckleberries here in Arizona.
2. My favorite subjects in school were always art, history, and writing, although I have to say I did love the satisfaction of penciling numbers and equations in neat little lines on the lined paper of math homework! I feel bad for my younger siblings whose math assignments are all on the computer now, that’s just not the same as writing it out by hand.
3. I’ve always loved rainbows and all the colors of the rainbow…it might have something to do with growing up in the ’90’s with all things Lisa Frank!
4. If I could wake up one day and be living in the world of any TV show, I would choose The Andy Griffith Show. I just love everything about Mayberry!
5. I love musicals–watching them, performing in them, and singing along to the soundtracks! During high school and college I was a part of the ensemble for productions of Fiddler on the Roof and The Scarlet Pimpernel. Right now the musical I would most love to see on stage would have to be The Lion King!
6. I graduated with double BA’s from Utah State University in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education.
7. One of my pet peeves is when someone carelessly erases a chalkboard or whiteboard and leaves lots of little leftover chalk or marker lines! Can’t handle it.
8. One item on my bucket list is going to Disneyland on Dapper Day–it’s a day when everybody comes to the park all dressed up in their 1960’s best and being in the middle of that sounds so magical to me! I love dressing up and it would be so fun to feel like I’ve traveled back in time to the good old days when Disneyland first opened.
9. I’m a huge Harry Potter fan and can’t wait for the next Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie to come out in a few months!
10. My most embarrassing moment happened when I had recently started dating my husband, Shawn, and was texting my cousin about how our relationship was going and all about how he hadn’t kissed me yet but I thought he probably would soon…and then I get a text from Shawn, “I think you meant to send that to someone else?” I was MORTIFIED!! He was so sweet and understanding about it though and we just laugh about that now!
11. I used to think my favorite season was summer, but now that I live in the eternal summer weather of Phoenix, my heart really longs for a true fall, winter, and spring!
12. My first job when I turned 16 was shelving books as a library page. I got really fast at alphabetizing!
13. If I could change one of my physical attributes, I would be taller! I’m only 5’1” and the shortest out of 6 kids in my family. This is why I bring a step stool with me to almost every photo session!
14. I’m not a huge fan of candy or soda pop but I’m a complete pushover when it comes to cookies, brownies, basically any dessert or carbs.
15. The first celebrity crush I remember having was young Christian Bale from watching Newsies and Little Women. And this probably doesn’t count but am I the only one who had a crush on Robin Hood? As in, the animated fox Disney version of Robin Hood? Hahaha I seriously thought he was pretty attractive!
16. I took piano and voice lessons for several years while I was growing up. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert pianist or vocalist, but I do love to sing and play the piano.
17. For some reason, whenever I try to bake chocolate chip cookies, they never turn out right for me. It doesn’t matter what recipe I use or even if it’s the Tollhouse refrigerated dough kind, I have really bad luck with them!
18. My favorite children’s book is The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White.
19. I love to sew, but I hate following a pattern. Somehow for me it’s easier to take a piece of clothing and figure out how to replicate or alter it and experiment with it than to follow the complicated steps on pattern instructions.
20. The first place on my travel bucket list is Europe– I’m dying to see the architecture, art, and beautiful countryside throughout France, Italy, England, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and so many more places. I might need to just live there for a few months to see everything I want to see!
21. My favorite bands are Coldplay, Maroon 5, He is We, and One Republic.
22. I’m the oldest of six kids, three boys and three girls, kind of like the Brady Bunch except we didn’t have a maid.
23. If I had to go back to college and start all over with a different career, I would study graphic design and become a fabric/surface pattern designer.
24. I was an elementary school art teacher in Utah before I moved to Arizona and some changes involved with the move and other things going on in my life made it necessary to make a career change…that’s when I started my photography business and it’s been the perfect change for this time in my life! I still love teaching though and continue to run a summer art program for kids that I started five years ago.
25. I must have strangely shaped insides of my ears because traditional earbuds will not stay in my ears for anything. The only earbuds that fit my ears well are some old earbuds I have that came with an offbrand MP3 player from the early 2000’s. Sure hope I never lose them!
26. I love doing DIY projects around the house, and the majority of the furniture or home decor you see around my house has been painted, built, stained or spray painted in some way.
27. I’m obsessed with pretty office supplies and paper products. Riflepaperco.com is a very dangerous place for me!
